Our History, Our Impact
Making a Difference in Our Community Since 1960
For more than six decades, our members have joined together in friendship, service and fundraising to make a difference in the communities we call home.
A Legacy of Service
In 1974, the Lake Murray-Irmo Woman's Club established the first Okra Strut. The funds raised through the festival helped make possible Irmo's first library. In 1980, the current Irmo Branch Library opened at 6251 St. Andrews Road. The Irmo Okra Strut continues today and monites raised are used to support the library and our scholarship programs.
Investing in Our Community
Fundraising allows the Lake Murray-Irmo Woman's Club to support organizations that are making a difference throughout the Midlands.
Recent recipients include:
Sharing God's Love
Sister Care
Leeza's Care Connection
PALS
Congaree River Keeper
Family Promise of the Midlands
Able SC
Central Midlands Transitional Retreat
Midlands Orphan Relief
SCCADVSA
Supporting the Next Generation
Education has always been an important part of our mission.
Through the proceeds of the Irmo Okra Strut, the club provides $4,000 in scholarships annually to qualified students at Dutch Fork and Irmo High Schools.
We are proud to invest in young people in our community and help them pursue their educational goals.
Pinot & Pearls
Our annual Pinot & Pearls event brings together friends, member and community supporters for an evening of fun, fellowship, food, wine and a wonderful silent auction.
More importantly, the proceeds from Pinot & Pearls help our club continue supporting important projects and organizations throughout the Irmo-Lake Murray community.
More than Fundraising
Our work is about more than raising money.
It is about identifying needs in our community, supporting worthwhile causes and putting our time, energy and resources behind the people and organizations working to make our community a better place.
A Tradition that Continues
We are proud of our history. We are grateful to our community. And we look forward to what we can accomplish together in the years ahead.
Thank You for Supporting LMIWC
Every ticket purchased, fried okra ordered, silent auction donation or sponsorship helps us to continue our work.
Thank you for being part of our story. And if you too are bitten by the volunteer spirit, come join us! New members always welcome!
